Hot Water Layer(HWL)of China Advanced Research Reactor(CARR)is a layer of hot water on the top of the reactor pool.It prevents the lower water containing radioactive material reach the surface of the pool through convection,so as to drop down the radiation level of the reactor hall. This paper calculated the heating power required to construct the HWL with experience relations, and analyzed the flow and temperature field of the reactor pool using computational fluid dynamics software CFX.The results imply that the heating power rate of CARR HWL is 120kW,the HWL is formed in the top of the reactor pool, but uneven, and the average thickness of HWL is about 1.8m.
